Rainbow Cake a la Me

My post today will be about the cake I've made last week, Sunday, 30th September 2012.

Guess what I've made last week?
It consist various colors of each layer of the cake. Figure it out yet?
Yes, I've made Rainbow Cake, or short of.

I've decided to make it since 2 weeks before. 1 thing makes me interested to bake a cake is want to make a good cake for my family and BF. And so I started to make it.

The recipe I used in this recipe is:

- 226 grams Butter
- 400 grams Sugar
- 5 White Eggs
- 2 tsp Vanilla Essence
- 375 grams Flour
- 4 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 355 grams Milk
- 6 Food Coloring Paste

1. I put together flour, baking powder, salt in a bowl. Put aside.
2. I mix white eggs until it stiff. Put aside.
3. I mix butter with sugar until soft, then added stiff white eggs little by little.
4. I added flour and milk mix to the admixture alternately. Then I put vanilla essence.
5. I take approximately 1 admixture and added red color, and bake it for 15-20 minutes in 160-190 Celsius degree. And I repeat to the rest like that with letting the admixture in the mixing bowl.

After all admixture done, I made the butter cream with this recipe:

- 750 grams White Butter
- 1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 50 ml Simple Syrup

1. I mix them all until it soft.

And then, I put them in layer and spread the butter cream in each layer. This is my first time, and it's still not quite good. After I've layered them all, I spread the butter cream to cover the whole cake to be like this:

Then, I took my first cut to see how it is. Wanna take a sneak peak? Here it is:

Quite good for beginner. But still so much to learn. Now, how about the taste?
Well....
I don't know how to say it. But, everyone in the house was laugh after taste my cake. At first, I don't realize what's wrong, but after I tasted it myself, well...
It's TOOO SWEEETTT!
But you know what? When I asked my BF to taste it, he said it's good. And he suggested to grate some cheese, just like my mom said. So I grated some cheese to it, sorry I didn't took the pictures.

And I've recognize what's wrong.
First, the sugar. I realized that I used local sugar which is sweeter. The color is bit more yellowish, not so white. If you wanted to used the local one, use 1/2 from the recipe. and it will be better if it is castor sugar, because it safe time to mix with the butter.
Second, the milk. I should use the evaporated milk than milk in cartoon package. It's, again, sweeter than evaporated.
Third, the brass. I think it's too big for small amount of 6 layer admixture. It'll be better if you use smaller one.
Fourth, the scale. Well, this is crucial since a not quite right amount of ingredients may ruin your cooking. I used the measuring glass which is not recommended at all. Use scale next time.
Fifth, the butter cream. I can't figure out the problem from this butter cream, but overall the taste is not good and I think I've missed something. I hope you can find some conveying butter cream recipes so it will taste real good.

I hope you can made your own better rainbow cake than I do. And put some comments, because I'd love to hear some critics from you.
